Kim Jong Il is Such a Hunk
there is a picture hanging in my hallway of shannon and robin circa 1995. shannon is wearing a billowing grey t-shirt and robin is wearing a red sweater vest. i love that picture for approximately a hundred reasons but mostly because it represents just how cool we weren't in high school, despite what we thought at the time.
that story has nothing to do with my weekend but take a look at the pic below. 10 years later and shannon still has the look of a 12 year old! i love it.

the past couple of weeks have been crazy busy. lots of family stuff. i've been thinking about posting for a while but its been hard to get my thoughts together. and now i am being forced too ... thanks K.
i was so excited for friday night. its been ages since i had a good squawk with the girls so when S and K said they were coming into town i was stoked. we had dreams of going out and getting involved in both mayhem and debauchery, but it was not to be. we went to the beaches for dinner and a romantic walk with D down the promenade instead. and then went back to my place for a few drinks.
a couple of weeks ago i went over to my grandparent's house with my brother and sister-in-law. although i do not come from a long line of drinkers the older generation maintains quite the stockpile of booze. not even normal alcohol ... weird homemade prune-based concoctions from the 60's and whiskey bottled in a CN Tower container. i came across, and subsequently took, a bottle of 151 proof appleton's rum from approximately 1971.
the leos love their appletons so this vintage bottle was of particular interest. careful not to overdo it S actually measured out the shots. it was to no avail. there was a minor barfing incident on saturday morning.
ANYWAY back to friday night ...
we realized quickly that we weren't actually going to leave the house. the music was on, the squawks were in full force, and it was really nice to just drink and catch up. of course we documented the evening through pictures and words but sadly, in retrospect, they make no sense. and its not just the notes that are illegible; the pictures K sent over have no discernible meaning either.
but these are the "highlights" of the evening - starting with the one quote that should explain/excuse the rest!
"our compliments to your Grandma's fucking rum"
- both K and S
"we thought he was drunk enough to go home with you"
"his body is a literal dreamworld of magic"
"two leo wrongs make a right"
"awkward is the new cool"
"i got clangs and a clubfoot"
"whats that?"
"the std you get from not having sex"
to be honest, we aren't even sure why those comments are funny, but apparently they were important enough to warrant S scribing them. and it is nice to know that we weren't just entertaining ourselves. we called my sister after we broke into her facebook and yakked with her long-distance until K called last-call.
i wasn't feeling as bad as the rum-drinkers on saturday morning but when i went for a jog it was like every step caused a nail to be driven through my skull. i drank more this weekend than the past three months prior, combined, but it was well worth it. i barely fought with my family and overall i had a pretty good time. and now i am preparing myself emotionally for the return to work tomorrow. man, i need an adventure ...
